The Application of Lightning Interception Technology in Lightning Protection Engineering of Offshore Wind Farms
Offshore wind power areas are often areas with high lightning strikes.The wind turbines in offshore wind farms(hereinafter referred to as"wind turbines")mainly use blade lightning arresters to protect against direct lightning strikes,and their protection range is calculated according to the protection angle method(rolling ball method).However,accidents of wind turbines being damaged by lightning strikes still occur frequently.In 2022,Zhuhai Biqingwan Sea Wind Farm applied new lightning interception technology and conducted a special research project on the Biqingwan Sea Wind Farm.After experiencing the test of thunderstorms in the past two years,it intercepted 8 lightning strikes and achieved the goal of zero lightning damage for offshore wind farms for the first time.This article takes the Biqingwan offshore wind farm in Zhuhai as an example to summarize the main methods of lightning interception technology application in regional lightning protection theory,including the impact of two spatial forms of overhead lightning strikes and side lightning strikes on offshore wind farms,the determination of lightning strike paths,the relationship between lightning strike paths and wind farms,the influence of surrounding geographical environment on lightning strike paths,the gradient of electric field strength and its protection range,and multiple main technical links.Obviously,regional lightning protection is a systematic project,and the lightning interception technology for preventing direct lightning damage to wind turbines in offshore wind farms can be used as a reference for technical personnel.
