With the development of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR), microwave remote sensing, because of its particular imaging mechanism and the capability of acquiring data in any time, is becoming a very important technology to estimate regional and globe forest biomass and has itself advantage, which can't be replaced by the other optical remote sensing data. Based on the statistics method, ENVISAT ASAR data was used to estimate forest volume in Tuqiang Forest Bureau, Daxing' anling, Northeast China. In this paper, the relationship between forest volume and SAR backscattering characteristic was analyzed. According to the shape of scatter plot, the authors fitted and optimized regressive equation, and then estimated the forest volume. Using the independent checking samples, the results were evaluated, and the root mean square error (RMSE) was 16.526 m3/hm2.
