Change Classification and Detection of Hydrographic Objects from Maps of Different Scales
Hydrographic object is one of the most important types of features in a map and has high influence on economic development. Therefore, the change detection of hydrographic objects is studied in this paper. In order to detect changes of hydrographic features in maps at different scales, first, related research on change classification for spatial objects is reviewed.Second, change types of hydrographic objects are classified into two categories which including 4 and 9 types,respectively:1)for linear hydrographic objects:appear, disappear, lengthen and shorten;and 2)for areal hydrographic objects:appear, disappear, shrink, expand, move, rotate, split, unite, split and unite.Third, taking cartographic generalization into account, change type identification rules are adopted to distinguish real changes and cartographic generalization operation. Finally, two sets of hydrographic features at scale 1:2 000 and 1:10 000 respectively are used to verify the rules and methods for change type identification.Experimental results show the proposed approach is effective and accurate to detect changes of hydrographic features between different scale maps.
