Retrospects and Outlooks on the Research of Cultural Landscape Gene of Traditional Settlements
To uncover the core features of traditional settlements in China,Chinese scholars proposed the theory of cultural land-scape gene of traditional settlements(CLGTS)through introducing the concept of cultural gene(or'meme').And this therefore led to numerous exploring on the natural features of traditional settlements. In order to help people get enough knowledge of CLGTS quickly, this paper drew the progresses and existing issues of CLGTS through collecting and collating the corresponding research findings, documents, and projects in the past decade. At the same time, the paper also outlined the future work of CLGTS.It is found as follows.① A preliminary theoretical framework of CLGTS has been emerged during the past decade since it was proposed in 2003.The theory of CLGTS gains wide agreements and is employed to solve various issues, such as the analy-sis and recognition of cultural landscape genes, analysis methods, inheritance and evolution, the construction of CLGTS graphs. So,there are fruitful documents about CLGTS researches.② There are some problems in the current research of CLGTS,such as concept over-generalization,inappropriate using conceptions or methods of other disciplines, lack of classification methods/systems and recognition criterion, and the need to further refine the connotations and construction methods of CLGTS graphs.③ In future, the comprehensive theoretical framework of CLGTS has to be improved and the application fields of CLGTS have also to be widened. In addition, more attention should also be put on the conceptual systems, research methods, and theoretical framework through bridging geographic artificial intelligence(Geo-AI)and GIS.Simultaneously,we should also enrich the cor-responding application of CLGTS with the perspective of social cultures, social economy, and social developments. In a whole, this study will be of good implications to nourish the future CLGTS researches.
