Reclamation area is a special economic-social area mainly used for exploiting regional water and soil resources and con-ducting specialized agricultural production.Hainan State Farms,as the only tropical reclamation area in China, face a greater risk of social-economic vulnerability in their transformation.Taking Bayi Farm in Hainan as a case, the vulnerability features of so-cial-economic system are clarified based on interview and field study data, the vulnerability types are divided from farmers'per-spective,and the formation mechanism of the vulnerability is explored based on the Q methodology. Conclusions can be drawn as follows.① The main vulnerability factors of the social-economic system of Bayi Farm were identified as income level, living en-vironment,policy system and infrastructure.② The formation of Hidden unemployment risk, ineffective reaction to the re-em-ployment,and the inadequate management system and social security system in the reform process aggravate the vulnerability risk of social system. The difficulty of transformation and the instability of income reduce the coping capacity, and the sensitive response of farmers to the price fluctuation of tropical cash crops aggravates the vulnerability risk of economic system. The in-teractions between social and economic subsystems and their vulnerability constitute the overall vulnerability of the social-eco-nomic system of Bayi Farm.③ It is an important way to reduce the vulnerability of the social-economic system and achieve sus-tainable development of agricultural reclamation areas to establish and improve the mechanism system of the protection of em-ployee rights and interests, optimal land allocation, talent introduction and industrial transformation.
