Difference of Growth,Development and Processing Quality Between Two Main Geng Rice Cultivars under Different Nitrogen Application Management
Rice is one of the most important food crops in the world, and its growth, development, yield, and grain quality are susceptible to Nitrogen(N).In this paper,The effects of different nitrogen application levels(0,75,150,225 and 300 kg/hm2)on the growth and processing quality of Wuyungeng No.23 and Ninggeng No.3 rice varieties, which were main conventional geng rice cultivars in Jiangsu Province, were studied by a split plot experimental design. The results showed that compared with no nitrogen application(N1),the nitrogen application showed higher plant height, more tiller number, higher top 3 leaves chlorophyll content(SPAD value),higher dry matter weight, higher yield and higher processing quality. However, the higher the nitrogen fertilizer rate, the higher the plant height of rice, while the number of tillers, dry matter accumulation and yield would decrease.Meanwhile, although the increase of nitrogen fertilizer rate increased the brown rice rate, milled rice rate and refined rice rate, the excessive nitrogen fertilizer rate decreased the milled rice rate and refined rice rate,as well as the comprehensive growth and development indexes and rice processing indexes. The N3(150 kg/hm2)treatment showed better effect, and the response of different varieties to nitrogen was different. The plant height, stem and tiller number, leaf color value, effective panicle number, kernel number per spike, theoretical yield, brown rice rate and milled rice rate of Wuyungeng No.23 were lower than those of Ninggeng No.3,while the 1 000-grain weight, yield and milled rice rate of Wuyungeng No.23 were higher than those of Ninggeng No.3.The yield and processing quality of Wuyungeng No.23 and Ninggeng No.3 were better under pure nitrogen application of 150 kg/hm2 and 225 kg/hm2,respectively.
