Germination Characteristics and Drought Resistance Evaluation of Yunmai 77 and Yunmai 80 Under Simulated Drought Stress with PEG-6000
Winter and spring drought in Yunnan seriously affected the growth, development and yield of wheat. The study on germination characteristics and drought resistance evaluation of new wheat varieties has important guiding significance for the demonstration and promotion of new wheat varieties. Different concentrations of PEG-6000 solution were used to treat new wheat varieties Yunmai 77 (upland wheat) and Yunmai 80 (field wheat) under different cultivation modes in Yunnan Province. The daily relative germination percentage, germination rate, germination potential, germination delay, germination index, drought resistance index of seed germination and free proline content were tested, and the variance analysis was performed. The results showed that when PEG-6000 concentration was more than 6 g/L,Yunmai 80 could not germinate,Yunmai 77 could germinate, but the germination time was delayed. Different concentrations of PEG-6000 solution had significant inhibition difference on the daily relative germination rate, germination potential, germination delay, germination index and seed germination resistance index of the two wheat varieties. The germination rate, germination potential and germination index decreased with the increase of PEG-6000 concentration. The germination rate and germination index of Yunmai 77 were higher than those of Yunmai 80 under the stress of 2-8 g/L PEG-6000 solution. Under no PEG-6000 treatment, the free proline content of Yunmai 80 was significantly higher than that of Yunmai 77. Under the same PEG-6000 treatment (except 10 g/L),the free proline content of Yunmai 77 was higher than that of Yunmai 80. The method of simulating drought resistance to test the drought resistance of wheat varieties is effective. Yunmai 77 has strong drought resistance, and can be used as the main dryland wheat variety in Yunnan.
