Exploring the enigma of the brain:The development and applications of neural tracing techniques
To gain a profound understanding of neural tracing techniques,the evolution,principles,applica-tions,as well as the value and limitations of their applications in neuroscience and other fields are introduced.Firstly,traditional neural tracing techniques are reviewed.Taking peptide markers and conventional dyes as examples,the anterograde and retrograde labeling methods are illustrated.Subsequently,the latest advance-ments in viral tools for tracing neural circuits,including rabies virus,pseudorabies virus,herpes simplex vi-rus,and adeno-associated virus,are introduced.How these tools assist in comprehending the intricate work-ings of the brain is revealed.Their evolutionary history,types,and applications in brain science and neural circuit research are analyzed.Finally,the prospects of neural circuit tracing techniques in brain connectomics,human disease research,and drug development are discussed.The innovation brought by these techniques will contribute to a deeper understanding of the mysteries of the brain,improve neural health,and address the chal-lenges posed by neural-related diseases.
