Wind-induced response and equivalent static wind load for base-isolated tall buildings
Based on the wind load code for tall buildings, the equation of motion of the base-isolated tall building under wind load was established, and the root mean squares of structural wind-induced responses were derived.Taking three base-isolated tall buildings with different heights as study cases, the dynamic characteristics and along-wind responses of buildings before and after isolation were investigated.Similar to the formula for the equivalent static wind load(ESWL)of the fixed-base buildings, the corresponding ES-WL of the base-isolated buildings was proposed, where the simplified formula of wind-induced vibration fac-tor was modified. The results show that the modal frequency and damping ratio of the isolated building with the elastic isolation layer are reduced, and a clear drift at the isolation layer in mode shape is observed.Con-sequently,the structural response increases obviously compared with the fixed-base building. The simplified formula of the background factor of base-isolated buildings can accurately estimate the wind-induced vi-bration factor and also can be used for the calculation of the acceleration. This study provides a reference for the checking calculation of the wind-induced vibration for base-isolated tall buildings in the elastic range.
