Excavation of Xicaodun Site in Nanhu District,Jiaxing,Zhejiang
The Xicaodun Site is located in the southeast of Jinxing Village,Yuxin Town,Jiaxing City,Zhejiang Province.It is a Liangzhu Culture site associated with stone ware production.From July 2020 to January 2021,the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology,in collaboration with the Jiaxing Municipal Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology and Jiaxing Museum,conducted trial exca-vations and formal excavations at the site.Fifteen traces of Liangzhu Culture,including ash pits,ash trench-es,and well pits,were excavated.A total of 827 pieces or sets of artifacts were unearthed,including 150 specimens with engraved symbols.This archaeological data provides crucial insights for studying Liangzhu Culture's stone ware production industry in the northern Zhejiang region,enriching the research perspective on Liangzhu Culture's engraved symbols.
