Aesthetic and Informative Exhibitions from the Visitor Behavior Perspective:A Case Study of Yungang Grottoes-Themed Exhibitions
Using two Yungang Grottoes-themed exhibitions held in Suzhou as examples, this research investigates the differences in visitor behavior between aesthetic and informative exhibitions and aims to un-derstand how these differences can inform exhibition design. The findings indicate that both exhibitions share primary behaviors of viewing, communicating, and photographing, but differ in high-frequency and unique behaviors. Incomplete visits are notably more common in the aesthetic exhibition, whereas visitors in the informative exhibition primarily follow the predetermined route. While visitors prefer visually striking exhibits, their sustained attention depends on whether the exhibit provides additional information or points of interest. Dialogues among visitors in the aesthetic exhibition tend to focus on perception and connection, while those in the informative case are more frequently about shallow level topics related to the exhibition .
