Brief Report on the Excavation of Southern Song Tombs M413 and M490 at Shimenkan,Qinhuai District,Nanjing
From October 2018 to October 2019,the Nanjing Archaeology Institute excavated over 600 Song Dynasty tombs at Shimenkan in Qinhuai District,Nanjing.Among these,Tombs M490 and M413,lo-cated close to each other,were both vertical shaft pit tombs with double coffins.Artifacts unearthed include Han-bottles,bronze hairpins,copper coins,and wooden land purchase deeds.Based on the tomb structures and the artifacts found,Tomb M490 is dated to the Jiading period of the Southern Song Dynasty,while M413 also dates to the mid-Southern Song period.The excavation of these two tombs provides new archaeological data for studying the distribution,structural forms,and burial customs of Song Dynasty tombs in the Nanjing area.
