Common Interests and Shared Concepts:Mechanism of the Role of MIKTA in Global Governance
In the context of a turbulent global economic and trade landscape marked by increasing divisions among major powers, the call for"middle powers to unite"has resurfaced.Though there is no consensus on the definition of"middle powers",it is generally agreed that these countries lack the overall strength of traditional great powers and face pressures from both traditional and emerging major powers. In response, these countries seek to safeguard their interests and expand their representation in global governance through multilateral cooperation mechanisms, playing increasingly important roles in regional and global affairs. The Mexico,Indonesia, the Republic of Korea,Turkey and Australia(MIKTA)exemplifies these efforts. This coalition of the five countries aims to enhance mutual understanding, deepen practical cooperation, and jointly address global challenges.Within MIKTA,shared interests and common values interact and reinforce each other at different stages, forming the key driving mechanism for sustainable and stable development. However,no middle power can address global challenges alone. They should collaborate with major powers, including China,to bridge interests and promote a more equitable international order.In-depth research into the intrinsic operational mechanisms of the middle power cooperation in global governance is not only of significant practical implications, such as maintaining regional stability, managing China's peripheral relations, and enriching China's diplomacy framework, but it is also in accordance with the principles of South-South cooperation. The research attempts to advance global governance towards fairness and justice and offer theoretical value for exploring a diversified and balanced global governance structure.
