Political Organizations of Indian Americans and Their Political Participation in the United States of America
Indian-Americans,the second-largest Asian immigrant group after Chinese-Americans,have seen their political organization and participation grow with rising economic status and political awareness.Their political organizations are increasingly formed, and their political participation is increasing. The organizational forms of Indian-American political participation mainly include national political organizations, community interest organizations, and organizations directly influencing government policy.Indian-Americans exert political influence through campaign donations, lobbying, impacting politics in India, strengthening US-India relations, and collaborating with other Asian communities.During the Biden administration,Indian-American's political participation has included supporting campaigns, seeking public office, and influencing legislation and government decisions. However,it faces challenges such as severe population differentiation, significant generational differences, and greater influence on religion and caste. As the US-India relations strengthen,Indian-Americans are transitioning from pursuing"economic status"to enhancing"political status",with their role in US-India relations becoming more prominent. In recent years, through the joint efforts of the Indian-American elites and political organizations, the Indian-American community has achieved some development in political awareness and enthusiasm for political participation, with a marked improvement in voter turnout and political status and a more positive response to issues of immediate concern. In the long run,Indian-Americans will continue to be a key Asian immigrant group, influencing U.S.politics,economy,culture,and the future of U.S.-India relations.
