The formation and evolution of stromatolite reefs can provide important geological information and con-tribute to analysis of geological events and study of sedimentary environment evolution.Based on this, field section measurement and laboratory thin section identification are carried out for Xuzhuang Formation of Hejin-Xiweikou section.Combined with sedimentology and petrology theories, characteristics of stromatolite reefs, macroscopic morphology and microscopic characteristics of stromatolites are studied to invert its sedimentary evolution process and analyze its petroleum geological significance. The results show that, according to distribution of morphology and scale of stromatolites, the morphology of stromatolites in studied area has bifurcate-non bifurcate variation from bot-tom to top, repeating 3 times.Reservoir development thickness shows a trend of thin-thick-thin.During stromatolite reefs development period, deposition was generally in the stage of sea level rise, experiencing 2 small-scale sea lev-el fluctuations and hydrodynamic conditions changing several times.Discovery of stromatolite reefs in Xuzhuang Formation of Hejin-Xiweikou section in Ordos Basin provides a typical example for study of Cambrian stromatolites. The research has much significance to sedimentary evolution analysis and oil and gas exploration in studied area.
