Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is a sight threatening complication of diabetes.With the increase of the prevalence of diabetes and obesity in children,the incidence rate of DR in children has increased recently.The management of DR includes glycemic control,sys-temic and local medical treatments,and surgical management.As the asymptomatic nature of early stages of DR,early screening and timely diagnosis of DR are crucial to avoid progression to late stages or sight threatening stages.The pathophysiology and therapeutic tar-gets of pediatric DR,as well as the currently available and developing drugs and surgical treatment methods were reviewed to provide a theoretical basis for the standardized clinical diagnosis and treatment of pediatric DR.
