Research on the Shift and Impact of US Trade Policy in the Context of Major Global Changes
After the 2016 election,the US trade policy landscape has undergone profound changes.Trump's pur-suit of the"America First"trade protectionism,especially the imposing of tariffs on Chinese products through the"Section 301 investigation",triggered the US-China trade war.As the successor,the Biden administration did not promote"free"trade and multilateral trade reforms.Instead,it continued with the nationalist policies even united with its allies to decouple and disrupt the supply chain with China.This paper analyzes the economic and geopoliti-cal impact of the Trump and Biden governments'trade policies,examines the future direction of U.S.trade policy,and finally puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for China's foreign trade development.In the face of un-precedented changes in a century,the interconnection of the world economy is closer than ever,and protectionism can only make the world more inelastic,more unequal,and more prone to conflict.China needs to further play its role as a major country in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative,the cooperation with emerging markets and de-veloping countries,and WTO reform to provide new opportunities and new momentum for world development.
