US Agricultural Subsidy Policy:Evolution,Characteristics and Implications
This paper analyzes the evolution of the United States Farm Bill and farm production characteristics, and explores the development trend, structural differences and spatial evolution of different types of farm subsidies from temporal and spatial perspectives. The study finds that US farms have shown the development trend of ex-panded individual farm, diversified forms and increasing degree of concentration, with the top 20%of farms obtain-ing almost all of agricultural subsidies in that year, and uneven subsidies distribution among different farms.More-over,subsidy policies differ greatly among different agricultural products, for example, some products are favored by local government over other products to gain greater internaltional competitiveness. Finally, the growth volatili-ty varies with different types of agricultural subsidies, alternating between increase and decrease. There also exist large regional disparities across states, with higher subsidy in the central and southern parts and lower subsidies in the eastern and western parts.
