THE INFLUENCE OF ROOF MATERIALS ON THE WATER HOLDING CAPACITY OF ROOF SNOW LAYERS AND ROOF SNOW SLIDING
Considering different roofing materials such as concrete, steel, membrane, and glass that are widely used on building roofs, this paper conducted an experimental study on the maximum water-holding capacity of roof snow layers and the sheer strengths of the snow-roof interfaces to reveal the influence of roof materials on roof snow slid-ing. In addition, a degree-day model is incorporated to establish a method to assess the occurrence of roof snow slid-ing, and the impact of roofing materials on the roof snow sliding is analyzed. It is indicated that the maximum wa-ter-holding capacity of roof snow increases with the increase of surface roughness;the critical temperature for the oc-currence of roof snow sliding also increases with the increase of roughness with the glass as an exception. The results may provide the reference for further studies on the mechanism of roof snow sliding.
