ANALYSIS AND SAFETY EVALUATION OF PIER DISPLACEMENT ISSUES IN DEEP SILT AREAS
To study the impact of construction beneath bridges in deep silt areas on existing bridge piers and piles, this paper details the damage and safety assessment of an existing bridge based on an engineering case.It introduces methods for analyzing and evaluating pier displacement.Using a bridge in Guangdong as a case study, where con-struction of a river embankment caused pier displacement and bearing displacement, the paper derives actual values of pier displacement and beam displacement from inspection reports. These values are analyzed using Midas Civil software. Results show that Pier 7#experienced displacement due to soil pressure, with the pile's bending resistance capacity being insufficient and entering an elastic-plastic state, failing to meet safety requirements.Reinforcement design is necessary. This case provides valuable insights and references for analyzing pier displacement in future bridge projects.
