STUDY ON AXIAL TENSILE BEARING CAPACITY OF DOUBLE-EAR PLATE WELDED HOLLOW SPHERE JOINTS
To reveal the tensile failure mechanism of double-ear plate welded hollow sphere joints and establish a calculation formula for their tensile bearing capacity, axial tensile ultimate bearing capacity tests were conducted on eight such joints.Using ABAQUS finite element software,a parametric numerical analysis was performed to discuss the influence of joint geometric dimensions on bearing capacity. The results showed that under axial tensile forces, the failure mode of the double-ear plate welded hollow sphere joints involved cracking of the hollow sphere and fail-ure of the weld at the connection between the ear plate and the hollow sphere, with some specimens exhibiting local-ized spalling on the sphere surface.A reference formula for calculating the tensile bearing capacity of double-ear plate welded hollow sphere joints with outer diameters ranging from 160 to 500 mm was proposed, providing valu-able insights for similar engineering designs.
