The Occurrence of the White-necklaced Partridge in Fujian of SE China
The White-necklaced Partridge Arborophila gingica ,though being recorded in Fujian of SE China by Gmelin as early as in 1789,lack is still of the knowledge and understanding on its occurrence in the province since so far, whereas,according to our field observations in the last few years,the bird might be widely distributed in almost all the territory in the mainland Fujian. In fact,the White-necklaced Partridge can be found in Fujian along the coast from Fuding and Ningde,the very northeast of the Province, to Fuzhou, Fuqing, and Putian of the central east part and southwards to Xiamen and Zhao'an in south Fujian, while,along the border of Fujian with other provinces, the partridge is found distributed in the whole Wuyishan range in the north and NW Fujian to Tai'ning and Ninghua the west and down to Yongding the very south. And, the White-necklaced Partridge might be to occur from the hill-foot lower than 150 m along the coastal areas up to 1 900 m around the top area of Wuyishan,which is also the summit to SE China. By counting the calling males in early breeding season from mid- March to early May, it reveals that the population density of the bird might be of 2 - 3 pairs/km2 at 1 400 - 1 800 m asl. in Wuyishan,4 - 5 pairs/km2 at 900 - 1 200 m asl.in Longqishan (Mt.Longqi) at Jiangle,and about 3 pairs/km2 in some areas lower than 500 m asl.near Xiamen. Moreover, in Jiangxi, the White-necklaced Partridge could be found distributed as north as to Lushan near the south bank of the Yangtze River.
