Experimental study on flow characteristics of helical corrugated pipes
Currently, the relationship between the size parameters and the pressure loss is still remained unknown. For large-sized corrugated pipe used in HTS cable with a diameter of over Φ 40 mm,the corresponding experimental data is needed to be complemented. Therefore,a flow characteristic test platform for large-sized corrugated pipes was built.Refers to the existing superconducting cable structure, four hollow spiral corrugated pipe samples with different specifications were chosen to do experi-mental research on the flow characteristics with water medium. Each sample had nominal outer diameter ofΦ90 mm or Φ 60 mm.The pressure loss data under different flow rates were obtained from the experiments. The results indicate that the pressure loss increases in a nearly square relationship with the increase of flow velocity.Under the same flow rate and the same outer diam-eter,the deeper the wave depth, the larger the pressure loss.Under the same flow rate and the same wave depth, the smaller the outer diameter, the larger the pressure loss.Using the experimental data, the relational expression between the friction coefficient f and the Reynolds number Re for each sample has been derived. The maximum deviation between the calculated value and the experimental value is 16.77%.The relational expressions can estimate the friction coefficient f within a reasonable error range.
