In order to meet the requirements of different methods for limit of detection evaluation in gas reference materials research and ensure the reliability of evaluation results, this paper discusses the factors affecting the evaluation results of signal-to-noise ratio method commonly used in gas reference materials research, and studies the evaluation methods of limit of detection of analysis methods commonly used in gas reference materials research but unable to display baseline noise through spectrograms and unable to use signal-to-noise ratio method.Meanwhile, the experimental results show that the pu-rity of carrier gas, interference of background sample, linearity of method and adsorption of sample should also be consid-ered in the evaluation of signal-to-noise ratio method.USEPA method can be used to evaluate the detection limit of analyti-cal methods that can show baseline noise and analytical methods that cannot show baseline noise. For analytical methods that can show baseline noise, the detection limit level evaluated by USEPA method is equivalent to the signal-to-noise ratio level, which is significantly lower than 2~3 times the signal-to-noise ratio.AOAC method can be used to evaluate the de-tection limit of analytical methods that cannot show baseline noise, and its value is similar to the detection limit level evalu-ated by USEPA method. The detection limits assessed by the signal-to-noise method and AOAC method should be validated to ensure their reliability, while the USEPA method and visual evaluation method do not need validation.
