Cultural Cultivation in Academic Libraries in the New Era:Significance,Theoretical Concept,Practice System and Key Paths
Cultural cultivation serves as an indispensable measure for academic libraries to foster students with all-around attainments in moral,intellectual,physical and aesthetic grounding in higher education,and there is a realistic demand for academic libraries to implement cultural cultivation to innovate cultural inheritance,carry out ideological and political education and take lead in constructing the information culture.This paper analyzed the significance and concept of cultural cultivation in academic libraries from a theoretical perspective and took the cultural cultivation in Xiangtan University Library as a case study to explore the practice system and feasible key paths in order to promote the innovative development of cultural cultivation in academic libraries in the new era.The paper summarized the conceptional structure of cultural cultivation in academic libraries as a pyramid composed of four layers including material cultural cultivation,behavioral cultural cultivation,institutional cultural cultivation and spiritual cultural cultivation from bottom to top.With the objective of"reflecting the correct orientation of fostering virtue through education and serving the all-round and free development of the people",Xiangtan University Library strived to combine the subject,object,medium and environment of cultural cultivation and explored a set of practice system.(1)To collaborate with internal and external forces with common pursuits and values to achieve equilibrium of supply and demand and promote efficiency.(2)To integrate collections with cultural and educational elements and sort out classic reading materials,Red literature and local literature containing ideological and political elements to enhance cultural cultivation with national cultural identity,revolutionary cultural promotion and campus cultural construction.(3)To build a cultural cultivation platform with knowledge education,ability development,value guidance and character nourishing,implementing activities based on cultural literacy,competecies and students'interest.(4)To create physical spaces with cultural cultivation elements,providing distinctive cultural spaces such as Wenquan Reading Room,Knowledge and Practice Lecture Hall,and Boyue Study Room,creating aesthetic educational environment and making the physical space of the library as a strong force for cultural cultivation.Finally,the article calls for further and high-quality implementation of cultural cultivation of academic libraries from three aspects,including to pay attention to the overall design of the goal-oriented system,to improve the support system of collaborative education activities,and to establish a long-term mechanism for students'sustainable benefits.
