Case Study of Knowledge Discovery Short-Video Competition of Xiamen University Libraries-From Perspective of Agile Promotion
This paper explores how the promotion of academic libraries responds to changes in the environment and user behavior.Focusing on the challenges faced by academic libraries promotion,the concept of agility is introduced from the perspective of agile management to form the theoretical foundation and practical basis for university libraries to cope with changes.Firstly,it analyzes the concept of agility,the current status of agility research,and the research and practice of agility in libraries.On this basis,a case study of Xiamen University Knowledge Discovery Short-Video Competition was conducted from perspectives of agility drivers,agility providers,and capabilities.The case study shows good responsiveness as well as good results.Firstly,Xiamen University Library recognized a series of changes in library promotion including the requirements of digital transformation,the use of resources beyond the library collection,the diminishing appeal of the existing promotion media,the user base of short-videos in universities,and the short-video creation gap for library in library users.Then,the library integrated agility providers such as users with short-video creation ability,colleges with collaborative education needs and abilities,and resource vendors with stable resource promotion needs.For responding to the changes,it solicited original short-video works,carried out multi-party collaborations,embedded full-process tutorials,and opened the works to the community.This case brought the following effects.For skilled short-video creators,the competition gives an opportunity to accelerate the process of knowledge discovery and improved their digital scholarship literacy.For patrons who familiar with resource and tools,they experienced the process of expressing themselves in a new way and got their media literacy improved.For other patrons and the public,they could learn credible knowledge on public video platforms.For library,those short videos helped the library to be close to patrons,promote library resources,co-create online with patrons in digital transformation age and improve influence of the libraries.Academic libraries can realize agile promotion through the strategies of identifying and evaluating the drivers of agile promotion in multiple ways,identifying and utilizing agile promotion providers in the perspective of integration and collaboration,and realizing the required capabilities for agile promotion with cost-effectiveness in mind.
