A New Exploration of Resource-Service Integration in Academic Libraries from the Perspective of Information Resource Management
Resource development and service innovation are practical issues that academic libraries inevitably address on the path to modernization.With a clear direction of resource-service integration,Peking University Library has not only improved the mechanism of resources and services,but also achieved the overall development of the two,closely aligning with the University's talent cultivation,disciplinary development,and scientific research innovation systems through years of exploration,practice,reform,and innovation.The article explores the integrated development of resources and services in academic libraries from the perspective of Information Resource Management.It clarifies the concept of Information Resource Management and provides an explanation of'integration'.It is not simply the merging of resources and services,but by leveraging the theory of Information Resource Management to enhance the combination,correlation,convergence,and collaboration of the two when revealing and handling their relationships.This,in turn,enhances the overall integrity and systematization of resource development and service innovation,further establishing the library as an organic entity and an ecological community of its endeavors.The article reviewed and sorted out the innovative development of the integration of library,information,and archival disciplines.With research on resource development and service innovation in domestic and international libraries,it focused on innovative paths and methods for user engagement in resource development.However there is a lack of systematic research and analysis from the theoretical or academic level.The article highlighted the main practices of resource-service integration in Peking University Library,including:integrated design to enhance the holistic and comprehensive nature of library operations;integrated implementation to strengthen resource-based service innovation and service-oriented resource development;integrated transformation to boost the vitality and influence of libraries in the development of universities;integrated development to promote the common and sustainable development of academic libraries.Expected results have been achieved in related research and innovative practices.The article concludes by attempting to summarize the theoretical implications of the integration of resources and services in academic libraries:resource-service integration refers to the coordinated development of related resources and services under certain conditions,gradually enhancing the overall characteristics,and evolving towards more efficient goals;resource-service integration requires libraries to handle various relationships based on the division of responsibilities in management practices;the practices of resource-service integration promotes the scientific and systematic development of disciplines such as Library Science,Information Science,and Archival Science.
