Transforming from Resource Retrieval to Thinking Empowerment:Exploration of the Integrated Development of Resources and Services at Sun Yat-sen University Library
In the context of the information era,the carriers of library collections have diversified significantly,leading to a surge in the total amount of library resources.Readers now have broader channels to access resources independently,posing unprecedented challenges to libraries in terms of resource service systems,service concepts,and service models.Seizing the opportunities brought by the development of information technology and addressing these challenges have become important issues for contemporary libraries.Sun Yat-sen University(SYSU)Library,with a century-long history,has always attached great importance to the diversified development of information resources and established rich collections.Taking SYSU Library as an example,this article explored the integration of resources and services within the context of its rich collections,drawing on the library's diversity resource development over the past century.Over the past hundred years,SYSU Library has accumulated a solid foundation of collection.With the widespread application of modern computer technology and information,it has laid a solid data foundation for the integrated development of resources and services.The emergence of modern image and text recognition technology and artificial intelligence has further provided important technical conditions for this integrated development.In this context,SYSU Library has gradually explored a university library information resource guarantee service system that shifts from resource retrieval to thinking empowerment by achieving convenience,integration,breakthroughs,and reconstruction and innovation in resources and services.This contributes to the construction of smart libraries and"future learning centers".Specifically,this includes:First,establishing a smart resource search and discovery platform to bridge the gap between Chinese and foreign language resources,maximize the usage of ancient books information,provide convenient access channels,and create academic papers delivery services,promoting resource sharing for teaching and research.Second,building an integrated management and service platform for printed and electronic resource data to enable one-stop utilization and provide resource support for the construction of smart libraries.Third,breaking down traditional disciplinary boundaries and providing rich and diverse disciplinary resources and curriculum services through innovative interdisciplinary data organization and multidisciplinary service scenarios.Fourth,through the SYSU Digital Humanities Lab,exploring the feasibility and innovative pathways of knowledge production by utilizing cutting-edge digital intelligence technologies such as big data,artificial intelligence,virtual reality,and digital twins to advance humanity-centered interdisciplinary resource information reconstruction and organic integration.
