From"Comprehensive Collection Orientation"to"Professional Service Orientation"—Exploration and Reflection on the Integrated Development of Resources and Services of Huazhong Agricultural University Library
This paper draws on the practices of Huazhong Agricultural University Library in integrating resources and services to explore strategies for synchronized development of these two essential components within university libraries. It highlights that the development of library resources and services is inseparably linked.Only on the basis of mutual support between resources and services can the diverse and evolving needs of modern users be effectively addressed.Huazhong Agricultural University Library systematically promotes the integration of resources and services through two key pathways:"service-oriented resource development"and"resource-driven service innovation."In the former, resource development is strategically aligned with the university's academic disciplines, teaching resources, scientific research, and performance evaluation frameworks, thereby contributing significantly to the institution's"Double First-Class"initiative.In the latter,resource-driven service innovation involves several key activities:(1)leveraging strategic intelligence services supported by top-tier faculty to maximize the utility of literature resources;(2)conducting subject-specific analyses to provide insights into developmental trajectories and demonstrate the analytical depth of resources;(3)utilizing patent analysis to facilitate the practical application of research achievements, thereby unlocking the innovative potential of literature resources;(4)fostering reading promotion initiatives to cultivate future generations, showcasing the enduring influence of classic literature;(5)developing special collections to support cultural preservation, highlighting the broader societal impact of library resources. The integration of literature resources with the expertise of library staff ensures the dynamic enrichment of knowledge services.Furthermore, the paper proposes that the integrated development of university library resources and services should be structured around three interrelated cycles:first, achieving a synergistic effect by leveraging the complementary strengths of resources and services;second, enhancing value through their mutual promotion;and third, fostering greater impact through coordinated development.By aligning resource development with service priorities and leveraging the unique value of resources in innovative service delivery, the strategy of integrated resource-service development enables the library to drive transformative contributions across various dimensions, including holistic education, scientific innovation, and disciplinary advancement.
