The Case Analysis and Insights of Artificial Intelligence Literacy Education Practice at the University of Arizona Library
This paper investigates the content and format of Artificial Intelligence(AI)literacy education at the University of Arizona Library in the United States, with the aim of providing a reference for the development of related services in academic libraries in China.Through a research method combining literature review and online research,a comprehensive investigation was conducted on AI literacy education-related content, including specialized columns and supplementary materials on the University of Arizona Library's homepage, alongside a thorough review of various news reports, research outcomes published by librarians, and other relevant materials. The following five service characteristics of the current status of AI literacy education are summarized:(1)constructing a comprehensive, logically coherent, and highly extensible content system;(2)tailoring educational content to meet user needs at different levels;(3)integrating and providing a variety of AI resources both within and outside the university;(4)collaborating with internal departments to create a wide range of AI literacy resources;and(5)encouraging librarians'active engagement in practical exploration.Drawing on the practical experience of AI literacy education at the University of Arizona Library, along with the unique role played by libraries in promoting the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence, the study offers the following insights for Chinese academic libraries to leverage their organizational role in AI literacy education:(1)actively leveraging the organizational role of libraries in AI literacy education within universities;(2)emphasizing the importance of librarians and cultivating AI service talents;(3)exploring AI literacy service content and pathways tailored to local conditions;(4)leveraging the advantages of libraries in cross-departmental collaboration and actively exploring cooperation pathways;and(5)actively contributing to addressing AI ethics and morality. In the era of AI,librarians should have a deep understanding of the potential impact of AI on individuals'searching for, accessing, selecting, evaluating, and critically using information. They should keep abreast of the latest technological developments, consult the latest research findings through multiple channels, and actively use AI tools for practice.Under the guidance of national digital transformation strategic development goals, librarians should integrate data literacy, machine learning literacy, and AI literacy into the new wave of quality education in libraries.
