Statistical analysis of extreme values(SEV)is widely used in materials and other related fields.In this paper,by means of the SEV method and in accordance with the distribution rules of the inclusions,ASPEX scanning electron microscope is used to analyze the inclusions in riser(M)and nozzle(S)specimens and predict the maximum sizes of inclusions in steel forgings for gears.The results show that the maximum sizes of inclusions are different measured at different locations of the same large forging,among which the maximum size of inclusion is 34.43 μm measured at M specimen,and is 32.10 μm at S specimen;the predicted maximum sizes of inclusions are 47.42 μm and 56.45 μm respectively;the 95%confidence intervals are 5.05 and 6.29 respectively.Therefore,the measured sizes of inclusions are close to the predicted values,which proves the feasibility and effectiveness of the SEV method.
