Original Defect Analysis of ?1200 mm Continuous Casting Billet and Quality Exploration in Forging Production Practice
This paper focuses on the original defects of 42CrMo4 steel continuously cast round billet and its feasibility of replacing the die casting ingots to produce solid shaft forgings. After conducting low-magnification,chemical,metallurgical,gas,inclusion,and density tests on the original cast billet,it was found that the internal cavity and segregation were mainly concentrated in the central region and extended to one side;the chemical composition and gas were relatively uniform;the microstructure was pearlite+ferrite;the types and specifications of non-metallic inclusions existed certain differences;and the density in the center region was lower than that of the surface. After forging and quenching and tempering the cast billet, the results of nondestructive testing showed that after achieving a certain forging ratio, the quality of the test pieces could meet the nondestructive testing standards for general shaft forgings.By further increasing the forging ratio, the core quality of the forgings could be further improved. The results of this experiment show that continuously cast round billet with large diameter can replace the die casting ingot to produce solid shaft forging.
