Relationship between Regional Productivity Disparities and Firm Heterogeneity:Evidence from the Middle and Lower Reaches of Yangtze River
This article uses micro data from enterprises in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in 2020 to verify the impact of enterprise heterogeneity characteristics on regional productivity and its disparities. It not only expands the empirical literature on"New"New Economic Geography, but also has certain reference value for the formulation of regional economic development policies. Research has found that: (1) Under the control of economic and geographical factors, the heterogeneity characteristics of enterprises have a significant impact on re-gional productivity;(2 ) The impact of enterprise heterogeneity on regional productivity itself has heterogeneity, with the impact of enterprise age being only significant in low productivity enterprises. The impact of enterprise size increases with the increase of productivity, while the effects of human capital investment, capital density, state-owned equity ratio, and asset liability ratio all weaken with the increase of productivity;(3) The differences in the heterogeneity characteristics of enterprises in different regions, as well as the different directions and intensities of their impact on productivity, have led to the differential distribution of productivity in different regions.
