As(one of)the most influential,if not notorious,critical theory and despite its enduring connection with François Truffaut and Cahiers du cinéma,the"politique des auteurs"does nevertheless undergo an ambiguous transformation thanks to André Bazin,co-founder of the legendary French monthly and spiritual father of the term's inventor.Through a series of diplomatic savoir-faire in tune with his personality,tolerant,generous,and most important of all,maieutic,and his bilateral method intending to convince while comprehending,Bazin broadened the horizon and nuanced the dogmatism of the politique practiced by the"Young Turks"by introducing the historical consciousness as well as a mythological imagination.Retrospectively,it could be believed that it was exactly this contextualized,therefore extended and enhanced,version of Truffaut's polemical project that promised the forthcoming nouvelle vague against the 1950s,a period apocalyptically dominated by the death of cinema.
