Design of 5-40 GHz Ultra-Wideband Double-Ridge Horn Antenna
This paper proposed a practical engineering solution for the phenomenon of splitting in the main lobe direction pattern of ultra-wideband horn antennas at high frequencies.A double-ridge horn antenna with metal grids introduced on the sidewall of the horn is proposed. This antenna improves the low-frequency imped-ance characteristics, reduce the antenna size, and mitigates the splitting phenomenon in the main lobe direction pattern at high frequencies. The working principle of the ridge waveguide and the introduction of metal grids on the sidewall are analyzed in this paper. The design process is described, and Ansoft HFSS electromagnetic sim-ulation software is used to optimize the shape and dimensions of the antenna. The optimized design achieves a 5-40 GHz dual-ridge horn antenna with a VSWR of less than 2.5 across the entire frequency range. The an-tenna is fabricated, assembled, and subjected to electrical performance testing, which shows good agreement with the simulation results.
