Environmental dredging treatment for rivers and lakes can generate a large amount of dredged sediment,which contains several environmental contaminants such as nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients,heavy metals,and organic substances,etc.Without proper treatment and disposal,it would cause serious secondary pollution to eco-environment.In this paper,the chemical composition characteristics of dredged sediment from rivers and lakes are systematically introduced.Advantages and disadvantages of conventional techniques for dredged sediment treatment,such as conditioning,dewatering,solidification,stabilization,and ex-situ remediation,are reviewed.The existing resource utilization pathways of dredged sediment are also summarized.Focusing on current research status and problems in the treatment and disposal of dredged sediment,we look forward to the future research direction of dredged sediment treatment from the aspects of the assessment of ecological risks,the development of newly processing technologies,the green resource utilization industry,and the construction of quality criteria and technical standards.
