Characteristics and distribution of Triassic source rocks in Tabei area,Tarim Basin
By systematically measuring organic matter(OM)abundance, type and thermal maturity of the Triassic mudstones in the Tabei area of the Tarim Basin, this study analyzed the source rock spatial distribution and predicted the effective source rock region. Results show that the TOC content of the Triassic mudstone ranges from 0.75%to 4%,indicating a moderate to good level of OM abundance. The OM type is dominated by type Ⅲkerogen, and the Ro value is in a range of 0.5%~0.9%,suggesting early to middle oil-generation window and a low hydrocarbon generation potential. The OM adundace and hydrocarbon generation potential of the T3h2 mudstone in the Halahatang Formation are higher than the T2a2 and T2a4 members in the Akkule Formation and theT1k mudstone in the Ketur Formation. From north to south, the effective mudstone thickness of the T2a4,T2a2 and T1k intervals show an increasing trend, while the T3h2 mudstone shows a reverse trend and its OM level is changed from moderate to good. From west to east, the T1k mudstone thickness remains stable, while the thickness of the T2a4,T2a2 and T3h2 members gradually increases and the OM level is relatively higher. The effective source rock region continues to migrate northward from the layer of T1k to T2a4and T3h2 members which is controlled by the sedimentary facies.
