Implementation of TFT-LCD Screen TCON Based on FPGA by Self-sliding Synchronization Method
TFT-LCD screens of different manufacturers, sizes and resolutions have different interfaces with the TCON(timing controller),corresponding to different differential signal formats. In order to adapt to the image display of different screens,a programmable timing controller TCON is required. The TCON system for TFT-LCD screens is implemented by using the self-sliding synchronization method on an FPGA chip. The system extracts video data from the differential signal output of the video processing main board, and proposes a self-sliding synchronization method to align it with the synchronization control sig-nal;converts the extracted video data into the input signals of the source driver,i.e.,differential signals in mini-LVDS or RSDS format, and at the same time generates timing signals for the gate driver;and the output signals from the source driver and the gate driver drive the TFT-LCD screen to display the image signals. To test the performance of the TCON,two FPGA boards are used for the experiment. One FPGA board implements the TCON;the other one is used as the input test signal source of the TCON to test the performance of the designed TCON.The experimental results show that the designed TCON is able to cor-rectly parse the video data from the LVDS video differential data and convert it into the source driver and gate driver signals of the screen to drive the TFT-LCD screen to display the video.Through comparative analysis,it can be seen that the self-sliding synchronization method has the advantages of less resource consumption and lower power consumption.
