An Active Inductor with Simultaneously Enhanced Q-f Characteristics and Robustness to Supply Voltage Fluctuation
A novel active inductor with enhanced Q-f characteristics and strong robustness to supply voltage fluctuation is presented.First-ly,a gyrator,a direct current bias circuit and a shunt branch are constructed, and the cooperativeness among these modules and the joint tuning of their external bias voltages enhance Q-f characteristics,i.e.the Q peak value can be tuned independently in a wide range with respect to the inductance value at the same frequency and the Q peak value can keep almost unchanged at different frequencies.Secondly,a voltage regulator module, composed of sensing unit and amplification unit,is employed to strengthen the robustness of the inductance val-ue and Q peak value to the fluctuation of supply voltage. The verification results indicate that at the frequency of 3.84 GHz,the Q peak value can be adjusted from 636 to 4 032 with the large tuning rate of 533%,while the inductance variation is of only 0.13%.Under the fre-quencies of 3.84 GHz,2.40 GHz and 1.54 GHz,the Q peak values can be high up to 4 032,4 039 and 4 043 respectively with the variation of only 0.2%.The supply sensitivities of inductance value and Q peak value are 0.011 nH/mV and 20.0/mV respectively.
