To solve the problem of ubiquitous positioning, especially the problem of locating people in GPS-denied environments,an approach for pedestrian positioning based on readings from a smart phone is proposed. The proposed approach is based on the Pedestrian Dead Reckoning(PDR),which estimates the attitude using the gradient descent method to fuse the measurements from accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer;Uses the peak detection method to detect new step;estimates the step length using apriori parameter based methods. The real scinario experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed approach can reach an accuracy at error distance ratio of about 1.82%.As the approach is independent of external infrastructures and signals,it has the advantage of good adaptability and practicability.
