Bus queue jumping priority method and benefit evaluation based on advanced zone at intersections
In order to prioritize buses at intersections and minimize the impact on regular vehicles,a method is proposed to establish bus priority zones in right-turn lanes.Further,a simulation process is developed using Matlab to evaluate the effectiveness of the shared lanes before and after the establishment of the priority zones, based on traffic generation and dual-delay matrix models.Analysis is conducted on traffic demand and vehicle proportions. Results from VISSIM simulation of a case intersection indicate that, after implementing the priority zones, the average delay for right-turning vehicles decreases by 41.03% compared to shared lanes, and the average delay for buses decreases by 26.74% compared to the existing situation.Sensitivity analysis shows that this method is compatible with high traffic demand and bus proportions below 50% .
