Design of Doherty power amplifier based on harmonic control
Power amplifier is an important RF front-end circuit in wireless communication. To meet the requirements of modern wireless communication for power amplification,a new harmonic control circuit was designed based on the analysis of harmonic control theory to improve the efficiency of power amplifier. The new harmonic control circuit can compensate the parasitic parameters generated by power tube, and it can also control the second harmonic and third harmonic to improve the efficiency of Doherty power amplifier. To address narrow bandwidth of traditional Doherty power amplifier,a post-matching structure was then proposed to design and improve the bandwidth of the Doherty power amplifier. Finally,a Doherty power amplifier was made and tested by using CGH40010F GaN HEMT from Cree company. From 1.85 GHz to 2.15 GHz,the output power of the Doherty power amplifier can reach 44.3-44.8 dBm,the gain is 12-15 dB,the output drain efficiency(DE)is more than 75%,and the 6 dB back-off efficiency is more than 60%.The results show that the designed Doherty power amplifier has obvious improvement in efficiency.
