An ultra-wideband loop-monopole antenna for partial discharge detection
An ultra-wideband loop-monopole antenna was proposed to improve the accuracy and sensitivity of the partial discharge detection in the electrical equipment. The proposed antenna was mainly composed of loop antennas,quasi-triangular monopoles, metal branches and a metal ground plane. The monopoles were embedded in the loop antennas, and connected to the loop antennas by the metal branches,so as to introduce electromagnetic coupling and generate additional resonant modes to improve the impedance matching and bandwidth, thus achieving good impedance matching and radiation performance over an ultra-wide frequency band. The results show that the simulated reflection coefficient of the antenna is less than-10 dB at 0.29-3.10 GHz band and the simulated maximum gain is 8.8 dBi. This result indicates that the good impedance matching and radiation performance over an ultra-wide frequency band is achieved. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulation. The measured reflection coefficient of the antenna is less than-10dB at 0.29-3.16 GHz band and the measured maximum gain is 9.3 dBi,which makes it suitable for the partial discharge detection in the electrical equipment.
