Hongshan Cu deposit is a newly discovered deposit in Laoyemiao area in east Junggar basin in Xinjiang Autonomous Region.Ore bodies occur all in Hongshan Cu mineralization-alteration zone and are controlled by deep fault and hosted by altered volcanic clastic rock of Lower Carboniferous Heishantou Formation. The Cu mineralization is genetically related to shallow intermediate-acidic porphyry,Au-Cu mineralization closely to phyllic alteration, silicification and pyritization. The ore bodies are characterized by large size and numerous number.Ore body 2 and 8 are the main ones.Drill holes hit thick and rich ore bodies thus potential to depth. This study shows that shallow intermediate-acidic porphyry body controls size and quality of the Cu ore body and influences zoning of the metal mineral. The ore formation is later than emplacement of the porphyry body taking place at end of Carboniferous Period and beginning of Per-mian Period.
