The CEE countries have become the central area in the EU to implement the mission of carbon neutrality and the reduction of carbon emissions. The CEE countries are facing asymmetric difficulties and challenges compared with other member states regarding the implementation of the coal phase-out plan, enhancement of the ratio of renewable energy and the efficiency of energy consumption, and of emission standards for cars and vans. The asymmetric cost-benefit relationship in the CEE countries is unlikely to be fundamentally changed in the short run in despite of the fact that a certain amount of funds and technological aids are available from the EU's Just Transition Mechanism.
