On the Multifunctional Word[p(‘)ou(?)]浮in Yangjiang Dialect in Guangdong Pronvince
The functions of the word[p(‘)ou(˅)]浮 in Yangjiang dialect in Guangdong province are a verb denoting FLOAT,a directional verb,an aktionsart complement,a dummy potential complement,an inchoative aspect marker and a topic marker.The multi-functionality of[p(‘)ou(˅)]浮 is different from those in other Yue dialects but partly the same as those in dialects of Minnan cluster of Min group.This paper describes the multifunctional word[p(‘)ou(˅)]浮 in details,tries to find out its etymological character and reconstructs its grammaticalization path.
