Three Cases of Recent Pronunciation Evolvement of Bowang Dialect in Ma'anshan City,Anhui Province
Bowang dialect of Ma'anshan city in Anhui province, spoken in the bordering areas of Wu dialects and Jianghuai Mandarins, has recently undergone a series of particular pronunciation changes.First of all,to maintain the distinction between the[(I)]and[i]vowels, the initials of[tɕ]group preceding the[(I)]vowel have undergone apicalization.Secondly, the nasal final of the MC Xian 咸 Shan 山 and Dang 宕 Jiang 江 final groups have shifted to the vowel finals. The vowel raising in the 1st and 2nd divisions of the kaikou 开口finals in the MC Xian 咸 Shan 山 final groups has triggered an evolvement chain in the MC Xie 蟹 and Zhi 止 final groups. Finally,as a result of interaction with Mandarins, the pronunciation of the MC Hou 侯 final of Liu 流 final group[*ei]was replaced with[əu].The pronunciations of[*ei]/[*uei]of the Hekou 合口 finals in the MC Xie 蟹 and Zhi 止final groups,by analogy, have been substituted with[əu]/[uəu].
