The word 是[ɕi(⊥)/ɕi.(ι)]in Chongren dialect in Jiangxi province functions not only as a copula,but also as a topic marker and an interrogative or exclamatory sentence-final particle.This paper argues that the topic marker是[ɕi(⊥)/ɕi.(ι)]originates from the copula.
