On the Sources of the Two Pronunciation Types of the MC Zhi 知,Zhuang 庄 and Zhang 章 Initial Groups with the MC 3rd Division of Kaikou 开口 of Zhi 止 Final Group in Mandarins
This paper discusses the two pronunciation types and their distributions of the MC Zhi 知,Zhuang 庄 and Zhang 章 initial groups with the MC 3 rd division of Kaikou 开口 of Zhi止 final group in Mandarins and argues that the two pronunciation types originated from the two different evolvement modes of southern Mandarin and northern Mandarin in modern times.The paper also points out that in modern literature,i.e.Gujin Yunhui Juyao《古今韵会举要》,Menggu Ziyun《蒙古字韵》and Xiru Ermuzi《西儒耳目资》,Zhuang庄initial group with the MC 3rd division of Kaikou 开 口 of Zhi 止 final group are pronounced differently from Zhi 知 and Zhang 章 initial groups,which reflect different phonological properties.
