Based on the food crime verdicts on the website of China Judgements Online, this research uses the method of content analysis to quantitatively measure the food crime in China between 2014 and 2020 from the perspective of food types, supply chain, hazardous substance, means of crime, places of crime, and criminal gangs. The results show that food crime is shifting from daily and low-profit food to new and high-profit food;the proportions of cases in food product processing and selling are on the rise;the types of food additives/pollutants have changed and new substances emerge in endlessly;crimes endangering food safety are controlled, but crimes endangering market order rise again;food smuggling is rampant, which aggravates the risk of the safety of imported food.Considering the important responsibility of public security organs to combat and govern food crime,it is suggested that public security organs should take the initiative to expand the sources of clues;make good use of legal and technical means to deal with investigation dilemma;make overall arrangements on domestic food crime suppression and participate in the joint fight against international food crimes,so as to protect food safety through rule of law.
